Moving Guide for Seniors

Moving into a senior residence is a big step. Our dedicated staff is ready to help you move in, and will make you feel comfortable in your new home. But we know that before you arrive there are many other things to take care of.

Moving Checklist

Here is a helpful checklist of steps for your move:

  • Confirm your move-in date
  • Reserve an elevator at the residence
  • Verify your move-out date with your landlord if necessary
  • Book moving services or transportation ahead of time
  • Measure your furniture to verify the fit with your new rooms
  • Make plans to store, sell, or give away any extra furniture
  • If you need new furniture, make plans to get it
  • If you have pets, check the pet regulations for your new location
  • Verify what sort of changes and decoration is permitted in your new unit
  • If possible, schedule time to decorate the rooms prior to the installation of your furniture
  • Begin to sort your belongings several weeks in advance
  • Boxes are available from moving companies, or free from liquor stores and grocery stores (for long term storage consider using plastic bins with lids)
  • Clearly label each box with its content and destination (i.e. which room)
  • Indicate those boxes that contain fragile contents, and put those to one side
  • Plan for assistance from family member or others to help with the move and arranging your new apartment the way you like it
  • Contact your service vendors (see below) to inform them of your change of address
